The City of Saint-Quentin is the lead partner of the Digital Kiosks European project, funded by the Interreg North Sea Programme.

The project aims to deploy a network of sharing Digital Kiosks across several European cities in order to promote a sharing economy that is more sustainable, inclusive and accessible to everyone.

The objective of Digital Kiosks is to make the sharing economy visible and accessible to everyone through physical kiosks where people can borrow and exchange everyday items.

These kiosks will enable residents to share, borrow or donate a wide range of equipment, including tools, gardening equipment, sports equipment, games, etc.

The kiosks will be connected to a digital platform that enables users to reserve items, access them securely and manage loans efficiently.

• Total budget: approximately €3.66 million (co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg North Sea Programme)

A Digital Kiosk is a connected locker containing shared items.

The process is simple:

1. Users reserve an item through a mobile app or website.
2. They unlock a secure locker using a code or access card.
3. They borrow the item and return it once they have finished using it.

The digital kiosks can be installed in public spaces, residential buildings, mobility hubs, schools, residential neighbourhoods.

They make shared resources easier to access while reducing consumption and waste.

The project is driven by strong European cooperation, with several transnational meetings bringing partners together throughout its implementation.

From 10 July 2026, the City of Saint-Quentin will install, at Parc d’Isle, near the Maison du Parc, sharing lockers accessible to everyone.

Designed to blend into this natural environment, these lockers allow users to easily borrow equipment directly on site, so they can fully enjoy the park without having to bring their own equipment in advance. This service provides a simple and practical solution to meet occasional needs, while avoiding the purchase of items that are rarely used.

By promoting shared use, this initiative helps reduce waste, optimise the use of equipment and encourage more sustainable practices in everyday life.

The equipment available will be suited to outdoor activities and leisure, such as games, sports equipment or items allowing visitors to enjoy the park with ease.

Access to the lockers is provided through the BoxUp mobile application, which allows users to select equipment and open the locker in just a few moments.

Once the activity is completed, the equipment is returned to the locker so that it can be made available again to other users. The system has been designed to be quick, self-service and accessible to as many people as possible.

The Digital Kiosks are accessible during the site’s opening hours, adapted to the seasons and to the number of visitors at Parc d’Isle.

Using the service is simple:

• Download the BoxUp application
• Choose the equipment you would like to borrow
• Open the locker directly from your phone
• Use the equipment on site
• Return it after use

Additional information will also be available directly on site.

Who can use the Parc d’Isle Digital Kiosks?

• The service is available to adults with a user account on the BoxUp application. Parents or legal representatives can borrow equipment intended for children.

Is using the service free of charge?

• Yes. Access to the Parc d’Isle Digital Kiosks and borrowing the equipment are completely free of charge.

How can I access the service?

• To use the lockers, you must create a personal account on the BoxUp application and accept the service’s terms of use.

How can I borrow equipment?

• Download the BoxUp application, log in to your account, select an available item of equipment and open the locker directly from your smartphone.

Do I need to book in advance?

• Reservations are made directly through the application once you are near the lockers. If equipment is available, it can be borrowed immediately.

What are the access hours?

• The Digital Kiosks are accessible during the opening hours of Parc d’Isle. These hours may vary depending on the season and the operating conditions of the site.

How long can I keep the equipment?

• The maximum borrowing period is 2 hours. Please return the equipment before the end of this period so that it can be made available to other users.

Can I extend my borrowing period?

• No. It is not possible to extend a borrowing period. You must first return the equipment and then make a new reservation via the application, subject to availability.

What should I check before using the equipment?

• When collecting the equipment, check that it is complete and in good working order. If you notice any issue, defect or missing item, report it immediately to the reception desk of the Maison du Parc d’Isle or call 03 23 05 06 50 (telephone reception at the Maison du Parc) before use.

Can I use the service without a smartphone?

• No. Access to the Digital Kiosks requires the use of the BoxUp application on a smartphone.

How do I return equipment?

• Once your activity is complete, place the equipment back in the locker where it was collected and confirm the return via the BoxUp application by following the instructions displayed.

Can I return equipment to another locker?

• No. The equipment must be returned to the station where it was borrowed.

What should I do if I have a problem with a locker or equipment?

• For any issue related to a locker or equipment, please contact the reception desk of the Maison du Parc d’Isle directly or call 03 23 05 06 50 (telephone reception at the Maison du Parc). The BoxUp application is only used to make reservations and open the lockers.

What should I do if equipment is damaged during my borrowing period?

• Report any issue identified as soon as possible and when returning the equipment, so that it can be checked by the Parc d’Isle teams.
